Clear Cache Directions
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

We need directions for clearing the cache for the various operating systems we have tested.

These do not need to be customer facing at the moment, but we may need some screen shots to help clarify the process for customers.

karrad raised the priority of this task from Normal to High.

Below are steps to remove the cached settings for previously installed versions of cura-lulzbot 2.x
I believe instructions were given to people in the past, but I wasn't involved so I'm not sure if the instructions were the same as these.
I can provide screen shots and/or more detailed steps if needed.

Linux:

Open a console and run the following commands:

rm -rf ~/.cache/cura-lulzbot ~/.config/cura-lulzbot ~/.local/share/cura-lulzbot

Windows:

Remove these folders using Windows Explorer:

\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\cura-lulzbot
\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\cura-lulzbot

Where <username> is the username you logged in under. You may only see one of the above two folders; this is normal. The AppData directory may be hidden and not appear. If so, you will need to type the path into Explorer.

Mac:

Open Terminal and run the following command:

rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/cura-lulzbot

  • For Linux this is one-liner that should work (clears everything, including outdated cura and cura2 packages):
cd; rm -Rf .cache/cura-lulzbot .config/cura-lulzbot .local/share/cura-lulzbot .cache/cura2* .config/cura2* .local/share/cura2*

Is it possible some users might still want to keep their cura 1 settings?

If possible, maintaining the Cura 1 settings would be great. Will these directions also clear Cura 1 cache?

Alexei's Linux command will remove the Cura 1 settings too. Mine will not.

@tranter Hi there! Could I please get the screenshots for Windows and Mac?

@tranter @Yahuba We have updated install directions for clearing the cache. Can you run through the windows version and MAC version to see if they are correct?

Mac: https://lulzstage.lulzbot.com/learn/tutorials/cura-lulzbot-edition-installation-osx

I can't access that site. Is it available outside your network?

@glatti Can we export a PDF of that for their review? Or are you comfortable enough to push live as of now (even if momentarily) for review?

Windows:

Mac OSX:

Some comments:

Windows:

Maybe expand the step "Delete the cura-lulzbot folder" to say "Delete the cura-lulzbot folder, if present, by right clicking on cura2_lulzbot and selecting Delete."

You can do the same in the step for %localappdata%

Mac:

You can remove the "cd;" from the command, it is not needed. The command can just be "rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/cura-lulzbot" This also matches the screen shot.

A nitpick: "OSX" should be "macOS" (they changed the official name recently).

Thanks! Those changes have been made to Windows and Mac, and are ready to roll out. The Linux command applies to both Ubuntu and Debian pages, correct?

@karrad do I have approval to roll out these updates into production? Will update, all 4 pages: Windows, macOS, Debian, Ubuntu

@glatti Push them live, if any issues pop up we can re-open this ticket.
