Positioning Plugin Issue
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

The positioning tool looks to have a couple issues while being used in Z.

1.) It appears to use relative movements. After sinking an object by 5mm, clicking off the object, and than selecting the positioning again. Z will now show "0" for positioning instead of "-5mm"

2.) After dropping an object into the build plate by xmm, when clicking off the object it duplicates the movement. Drop attached file -5mm into build plate, and select off the object. It will drop another 5mm (or whatever value inputed)

karrad created this object with edit policy "Restricted Project (Project)".

An easier way to reproduce this is to enter -5mm into the box, and repeatedly hit enter. It will drop the object by 5mm each time, appears to be in relative positioning.

I have been having this issues also, I enter the amount I want it to sink into the bed and hit enter but then when I click off the objects it enters the move again and is now double what I wanted. I do not think clicking off the object should execute the entered amount, it is confusing and unclear that is going to happen.

@karrad Seems like that not a bug. Relative positioning may be useful for customers.
We can add a checkbox in translation tool window for switching absolute and relative positioning.
Like this.

Or change relatve positioning to absolute like we had in version 2.6.69.

@TKostennov Good point about it could be useful in certain situations. Lets add in the absolute positioning option, and leave it checked by default. If a customer needs relative, they can un-check the box.

I like that fix

@TKostennov Can you also look into why it moves again when clicking outside the box as @anolen reported? It looks like we had a second report come in over the weekend on T2878

@karrad I found a way to fix it. Now we have absolute positioning like in 2.6 version. Do we need a checkbox for relative positioning?

@TKostennov Talking it over with support, we have not had any requests for relative positioning when placing models on the build platform. This relative positioning can also be accomplished by clicking the model and dragging with the mouse. No need to include the relative position checkbox.

Things look good on the local build, but I am not sure if you need to do anything else. Feel free to close out if you are good.

@TKostennov All testing on this end looks good, do you need to make any other changes before we close this one down?

@karrad No, I don't see any way to improve this. Relative positioning by mouse works well and we don't need to add any other ways to use it.
