M5 insert hole in Y-Corners too large
Closed, ResolvedPublic

I noticed while inserting Y-Corners that the M-5 insert went in really easily.
May be worth doing a pull test on, but I checked the size of the hole in the model and it is too large based on studies done in the past. To increase the holding ability of this insert, I recommend that we use the recommended hole size established a while back.
Current hole size: 8.5mm
Tested best fit: 7.4mm

The Y corners on olive are 8.4mm dia it might be worth testing, Ill make the changes and a branch and if its decided that 8.5 will work we can just delete the branch without merging

@west I know, the Olive ones are bad too. The response received when this was brought to attention (years ago) was that its fine if the insert pulls out and becomes flush with the metal plate, because it will still keep the Y-corner from rotating. While that is true, I don't think it should be standard practice to expect an insert to pull forward from its installed position.

TAZ 6 was the reason the insert hole size study started, however not all parts were fixed. Time consumption.....

@kent @Steven ready for review

FWIW, I did a pull test on 5 of these, only 1 made it above 5in-lbs

FWIW ive been using the long M5 inserts for those

@logan did you mean that pull test was with the modifications in 5bebf41c7a36 ?

@Steven Negative, we wont see any new printed parts until next week to test with as the only authorized individual for slicing is out the remainder of the week.
@west Yes i guess they are long ones on TAZ 6 too, I installed short ones though... Thanks for letting me know.
Once we have T4714 there should be fewer questions about inserts

Adding to this ticket we also want to change the bed mount chassis part to be inserted from the top with an M5 short insert (which would require a new PN and the BoM to be updated with that PN) and update the BoM to have only M5 short inserts (HD-MS0158) instead of M5 long (HD-MS0060) We will also need to verify how many HD-MS0060 we have on hand

OCA shows north of 93 thousand HD-MS0060 on hand. I expect that to be true.

Everything has been updated, we need to check oull out on the corners and bed mount chassis before merging. A new PN for the bed mount chassis will need to be generated and the BoM updated with that new pn

the bom in this branch is binary, so it is conflicting with what is in master. I tried to convert it to a csv but I was unsuccessful.

I think the only BOM change there would be changing the long M5 insert to the short one

This is fixed and now merged into master.
