Firmware Warning Message Update
Closed, WontfixPublic

Description

I've noticed we get a lot of people contacting support who get the wrong firmware detected message when they update Cura and the message makes them think something is wrong.

I was thinking if we changed the wording a little bit to say something like "Firmware update required" it may cause less confusion.

@Orias @lansky Thoughts on "Firmware Update Recommended"

We could also add some other disclaimer for people that do not want to update:

"Firmware update recommended. If you do not wish to update, you can connect by going to Preferences > Configure Cura > Allow Connections to Wrong Printers."

I am fine with whatever you all think is best.

I think that's better.

I'm a fan of this:

"Firmware Update Recommended"

@zachah @lansky Where are you seeing this verbage/what steps to reproduce? I am currently seeing these two pop ups:

I'm probably wrong but I only ever remember seeing one message before and I thought it was sort of a catch all.

It may just be people with older firmware that get this message. I was able to reproduce this by flashing a Taz 5 to firmware 1.1.4.41. I'm pretty sure this is the message that makes people uncomfortable when usually their firmware is just a little out of date.

@zachah What printer did you flash the TAZ 5 firmware to? If it was anything other than a TAZ 5, we want to keep this message as intended. Wrong printer with a different firmware will cause some damage
