Add more increments
Closed, WontfixPublic

When setting temps and offsets via the touchscreen, I think it'd be nice to have more options for changing the numbers. For example, when changing the nozzle temp, you can only change the temp by 1, 10, or 100. Would be nice to have more increments to choose from, like 5 and 50.

Better yet, ditch the increments and add a small onscreen number pad so you can just select the field and enter the desired temperature. This would be less key strokes overall and more intuitive I think. Idk how easily that can be accomplished tho.
@marcio thoughts?

A keypad would have to hide a portion of the screen, which introduces problems of it own. Plus, the layout has to work for portrait mode (TAZ 7) as well as landscape. This constrains my choices a lot. Keypads were an idea I originally contemplated but rejected due to the complexities involved.

Currently I use three increments because this is the maximum number of increments that fit when the screen is in landscape mode.

I have heard a suggestion for an exponential increment type feature, where there is no increment selection, but the increment increases the longer you hold down the button. This could potentially work within the confines of the current UI design.

How about letting the user set the increments in the interface settings?

@matth: That strikes me as adding even more complications, rather than simplifying things. I'm not a huge fan of the increments, but it was a compromise given the limited resources on the board (this is not an iPhone). Making it all customizable would require even more memory.

The exponential increment idea at least has the advantage of de-cluttering the screen and using less memory, but I wonder how precise it would be.

can we add a zero - when I'm done purging or changing filament it doesn't look like there's a quick way to cool down through the LCD

@adam: Would it be okay to have a cooldown button that sets everything to zero, or are you looking to do this with individual extruders/bed?

@marcio: personally I'm okay with either might be good to bounce this off tech support

I'm closing this out. I agree with @marcio that adding additional increments would add more clutter to the screen. I'm wary of the sensitivity of the touch screens to pull of the exponential increment. The cool down button fixes the requirement for getting to 0 quickly.
