Redgum tool head coloring
Closed, ResolvedPublic

There was a discussion about the coloring of the tool head to make it appear different than the normal SE. I expect this will be filament color choices but a determination will be needed before we present a final prototype for moving on to Alphas.

@DRobertson @eBeardslee @Hob - In the prototype review I believe Eric said he would put together some thoughts on this. We left off with the possibility of changing the color of the mount and the blower shroud to further differentiate or adding something to a sticker.

NPI has passed this off to you. What color are we going with on this tool head?

so based on our discussion this morning, it's LulzBot green. Green is for 0.5mm nozzles, light gray for 0.8mm, dark gray for 1.2mm
Wording on green part may be "HS" with "0.5mm" below it as raised lettering. This would distinguish from SE 0.5mm on Mini2
@eBeardslee this would also affect naming on existing HS tool head. Recommendation would be existing tool head becomes HS 0.8mm. This one becomes HS 0.5mm. Thoughts?

By adding HS lettering to the mount would require a separate part to be printed in cluster. We wouldnt be able to use the one we are already producing for mini 2 and all SE toolheads. Also adding HS to the mount isnt very visable since the fan and heatsink of the aero is blocking the view.

Throwing this out there as an option, I think we should go with a sticker on the 40mm fan that says hardened steel or HS

I've mocked up an image with the placement of the raised lettering. This will give the Tool Head enough distinction to not be confused with the SE toolhead that comes without the hardened steel components. It will also be relatively subtle so as not to be wildly different than our other tool heads in the universal line.

@DRobertson the lettering wont be very visible from most angles

@west Our sticker vendor requires a 1/8" margin between any cut line and text. If we also push it in 1/32" on each side so that there is some margin for error when applying the sticker, we're left with only 1/16" for text. At that size it would make more sense to add the HS distinction to the sticker that already exists on the front rather than setting up multiple stickers.

Additionally, users generally view the printer from a slight downward angle, making the printed position easily visible during general use and tool head switching.

In either case a separate part will be needed, be it a new sticker or a separate printed mount.

@DRobertson when homed both angles of viewing are restricted. The hardened steel sticker could be the same font size as the 0.5mm font size and I think it should leave enough room for error. While it may be an extra part wither way, the sicker would be less workload on cluster and reduce printed part mix ups

@adam Attached is a mockup for a new tool head sticker option with the HS added in.

Excellent, thanks Dave!

Printed out the modified mount and the consensus is we can't put that on a printer. The print quality was not good and having to run hundreds of these through cluster is going to skyrocket the fallout. I will post a picture later this morning.

Updated sticker with green text on HS.

Here is the modified mount. The letters are not crisp enough to pass, especially since this is a primarily cosmetic modification.

We will be moving forward with the green HS modified 0.5mm caution hot sticker. @jperry can you create a new part number for this sticker and do you want me to place a PR for the alpha, beta, and initial production stock of this?

I've created DC-LB0185 for this label. Can you list out the file pathway for this?

PR created and sticker designed - closing this down as resolved.
