Inspection notes:

  • Weld was not done to spec and there is a visible gap.
  • As noted on the report, inserts were not used for the bottom two and was instead threaded into the aluminium. (Item #57)
  • It is not on the spec sheet but I heard that we did not want them using a ink company identifier which they did use
  • The shelfs were slightly lower but only required a small adjustment to bring them into spec

I was looking through the report that we already have generated in the old format and noticed that a lot of the tolerances from the title block were mis-interpreted so this FA was done to looser tolerances than the design requires. I'm going to go through and create an inspection form in the new format and with the tolerances specified in the design.

Here is the final report. They failed on a few inserts and on the weld.

All 10 units received back from PMM with inserts corrected. The weld gap issue not correctable without remaking the parts, so they appear to have left the weld area unaltered.
The weld gap is a result of their process, and callout on the type of weld is a cosmetic callout that doesn't affect function, so Kent and I are not inclined to pursue that issue further with the supplier unless AO decides to order production quantities with them, at which time we should discuss with Product Planning whether or not an exception can be granted. In the past we granted an exception to Rapid Sheet Metal on the weld gap callout, and their Mini bottom plates worked quite well.
