Confusing Profile Descriptions
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Cura 3.6.10

The "Profile" dropdown lists "High Detail - 0.15mm", "Standard - 0.25mm" and "High Speed - 0.35mm" as options.

If you select a different "Profile" for each extruder; for example, one with "High Detail - 0.15mm" and then one with "Standard - 0.25mm", when the dropdown closes it shows what I assume is it splitting the difference. So in this example, when the dropdown closes, it shows "Standard - 0.200mm" for the one extruder and "High Detail - 0.200mm" for the second extruder.

While I think I understand the goal, from a UX point of view this is confusing because you see the same "mm" for both even though they have different descriptions and when you select the dropdown and it opens it still shows "0.25mm" and "0.15mm".

It does appear to be setting the "Layer Height" per what it shows when the dropdown is closed.

Anyway, this is confusing - maybe only to me?

@bmh Hmm, with the way Dual extrusion works at the moment, we do require having E1 and E2 to be the same height so we will average between the two. Do you feel a pop up tool box when hovering on that drop down explaining what is happening would help alleviate some of the confusion?

@karrad yes I think that would help a great deal just explaining why it looks that way. The other thing that might help is when the dropdown opens, show the value that will be used next to the profile name instead of the default value - that way what you see will match what you see when the dropdown is in a closed state. In all cases the fact that the things are "mysteriously" changing will be confusing, but your idea seems quick and relative to all your other priorities that I see on here it would make sense to just do that for now.

I suppose one other idea that comes to mind, is not allow different profiles to be selected. Make selecting the profile NOT per extruder. My guess is you might say though that different material types have different layer heights for the HD/S/HS so my idea in that case doesn't work if someone chooses two different material types. Plus I'm sure this approach would take longer to implement.

@bmh , yes averaging layer heights for dual extruders is the best way we can think of ATM.

@karrad , merged your changes to master, though translation for other languages was not updated.
